Time to plant the Amaryllis bulbs

Apple Blossom Amaryllis Bulb
My son's mother-in-law gave me a beautiful Apple Blossom Amaryllis bulb for Christmas. To be honest, I've been putting off writing about it because I wasn't sure what the correct term was to refer to her. Come to find out, there is a good reason for my confusion. There is no term for your child's in-laws. They may be referred to as your child's in-laws or as your (in my case) daughter-in-law's parents. Some circles recommend co in-laws but that just sounds silly to me and besides it is impossible to write - is that co-in-laws, co in-laws, co in laws or what? But I digress...

I planted the amaryllis bulb on December 28. According to the experts, the flower should bloom in 6 to 8 weeks, but some sources predict as many as 12 weeks before blooming. I'm guessing my Amaryllis will bloom sometime in mid to late February, but I'll keep you posted on its progress.

Reflections in Raindrops - Winter Blooms

Nature Shots December 2015
If you are anything like I am, you are probably beginning to miss the beauty of summer. I always feel sad when winter arrives and the outside world seems to go on hiatus. I miss green-growing things, bright flowers and the buzz of summer insects. I was especially sad to see it go this year because I have recently taken up photography and enjoy taking photos of flowers and insects.

But, as with all things, there is often beauty where you least expect to find it. I look these photos the other day after the rain and must admit they are every bit as beautiful as summer flowers. I thought I would share them with you today as we head into Christmas week.

Until Next Time . . . HAPPY GARDENING!

P.S.  I'm saving my new Seed Catalogs until after Christmas. How about you?
