If you love lilacs as much as I do, you'd be delighted to learn there is a new reblooming lilac on the block that appears to perform even better that the Josee Reblooming lilac. While Josee produces a flush of blooms in the spring and sporadic blooms throughout the summer and fall, Bloomerang™ Reblooming Lilac (Syringa x 'Penda' ) is reported to produce abundant blooms in both spring and fall and a good show of blooms intermittently through the summer. As an added bonus, Bloomerang™ Reblooming Lilac feature the traditional purple blooms from old fashioned lilacs.
You can currently buy the Bloomerang Reblooming Lilac for $19.99. It grows to heights of 4 to 6 feet with a spread of 6 feet. This hardy lilac thrives in USDA plant hardiness zones 3 to 7, prefers full sun and fertile, well-drained soiled. While trees and shrubs are traditionally planted in the fall, it can be planted in the spring.
I've added this lovely little shrub to my wish list and am thinking of planting it near my bedroom window to enjoy its heady fragrance as I drift off to sleep. The thought of the scent of lilacs wafting in the window throughout the year is comforting, as they always remind me of my childhood home with its row of lilacs outside my window.
If you are considering a reblooming lilac tree, the Bloomerang Reblooming Lilac is an excellent choice. It will thrive in nearly any part of Maine.
Until Next Time . . . HAPPY GARDENING!
