Boy is my face red tonight. Ever since the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map was updated in 2012, I've said I was in zone 4b. By looking at the Maine Map it certainly looks that way.
Tonight I was doing some research on the National Gardening Associations site and typed my zip code into the zone finder on impulse. I was shocked to learn that Springfield, Maine is considered zone 5. We used to be zone 4 and I honestly thought we went from 4a to 4b when the map was updated.
If you haven't checked your planting zone lately, stop by the National Gardening Association and type in your zip code. You may be pleasantly surprised by your hardiness zone.
