Time to start planting seeds!

My order from Pine Tree Garden Seeds arrived today. I am so excited about my  BELLEZZA D AUTUNO SUNFLOWER seeds.  It's been a few years since I have grown these, but I can tell you they are simply amazing sunflowers. Mine bloomed in late August and early September and put on quite a show.


I also ordered their Scallop Sunburst Squash and Eightball Zucchini hybrid. Last year, I made the mistake of buying a round zucchini  from the seed rack in a store and was very disappointed as they did not produce the nutty little zucchinis like this eightball. For those that are interested the scallop sunburst squash is sweet, firm and nutty, too.


Unfortunately, my Early Girl Tomato seeds will be shipped separately. I'm anxious to get them planted so they will be ready when spring rolls around. I know. The experts say not to plant tomato seeds inside until 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting time - but they are wrong. From my experience as a Maine Gardener, they do much better if planted 10 to 12 weeks before the last expected frost in your area.
